So how does it turn off I asked myself ? I investigated the clips attaced to the screen, alas nothing there either. So screwdriver at hand I opened up the unit to loof for the usual spring loaded switch, alas there was none. I thought also it must be something to do with the hibernation switch activated when the screen goes down. The Dell guy had had no luck with it whatsoever. I notice I am not the only one getting this problem.Īny other ideas what I should check/do?Ĭode: Thanks to the other post on this thread for getting me thinking why a friend's Inspiron 1100 wouldn't switch on despite power led lighting up. So If I do get it to work I plan to install ubuntu. She said if I can get this laptop to work I can have it. I already told my sister to buy a new laptop. So I know the problem has to be the board, I tried my friends power cable thinking maybe it's the power cable ect (the one you plug into the outlet to power your laptop).

Even if I don't have the battery in and still connect the power cord to the laptop I can't power on the pc at all I only get powered up leds when I press the start button. I think the problem lies withing the charging or the power supply. I bought a new battery for the laptop it work for 5 hours and then it stopped working and I get what I am getting now. I told my sister to never buy a dell again lol. I just tried without a battery and I get green leds flickering. if it is charging allow it to fully charge before switching off the charger and disconnecting it from the laptop.Ok. If it starts OK, allow it to boot all the way to the Windows desktop, wait for the HDD activity to settle a bit, then check the charge status of the battery. Reconnect and switch on the charger to the laptop.

When it has completely shutdown, switch off and disconnect the charger from the laptop. If it starts OK, allow it to boot all the way to the Windows desktop, wait for the HDD activity to settle a bit, then shutdown the laptop in the normal manner. Reconnect and switch on the charger to the laptop (leave the battery out at this stage). Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power from the laptop, then release the button. (Here’s a link to the ifixit Dell Inspiron 1564 Battery Replacement guide) Remove the charger (if connected) and the battery from the laptop. Try a power refresh and check if this resolves the problem.
